The History of BCNPA
The history of the BC Nurse Practitioners Association (BCNPA) is marked with a distinct determination, both for defining the nurse practitioner (NP) role in the province, and representing the voice of the profession in the BC healthcare system.
The association’s collective achievements and accomplishments are a testament to how a small, dedicated group of people can make an impact. From their grassroot beginnings of informal conversations over coffee to hosting sold out annual NP conferences, the BCNPA has consistently represented the interests of the now roughly 500 NPs in BC, while remaining nearly 100% volunteer operated.
As the BCNPA now moves to integrate with the rest of the province's nursing designations to form the Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of BC (NNPBC), we look back at our history to celebrate a rich legacy of achievement and the volunteers who made it possible.
