Job summary
The School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia – Vancouver campus invites applications for up to three non-tenure track faculty positions at the rank of Lecturer. These positions will be between 0.60 and 1.0 FTE The initial appointment will be for a one-year term with the possibility of reappointment subject to demonstrated excellence in teaching. The position is also expected to engage in clinical supervision and service contributions to advance collaborative health education, practice or quality improvement. The successful applicant will contribute to the assessment and evaluation of learners in the clinical setting of the Gateway Team-Based Care Teaching Clinic, working with students from nursing and other health professional programs. The incumbent will engage in clinical teaching, and possibly some lecturing through a variety of instructional methods, such as the occasional guest speaker or workshop facilitator. This role will require you to work on-site at the Gateway Clinic alongside an interdisciplinary team of health professionals. The anticipated start date is May 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.

UBC Health is in the process of establishing a Centre for Innovation in Collaborative Health Education and Team-Based Care. The goal is to create a first-of-its-kind provincial centre, providing an opportunity for students, educators, healthcare professionals, researchers, and patients to work together to improve the quality of healthcare delivery through innovations in interprofessional learning, team-based care, and research. A core component of the Centre will be a new, purpose-built interprofessional teaching clinic in the Gateway building on the UBC Vancouver Point Grey campus. By convening and facilitating partnerships with learners, patients, and UBC health professions programs, the Gateway Team-Based Care Teaching Clinic will lead ongoing innovation and scholarship in collaborative health education and team-based primary care in BC, building learner competencies and placement capacity for collaborative practice in primary care across the province. The Gateway Clinic will aim to support approximately 4,500 patients through longitudinal team-based primary care via the BC Patient Attachment System.
A successful applicant will be currently credentialed as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, holding a Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing. They must hold NP registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). They will have experience teaching nurse practitioner students in an academic setting or direct clinical supervision in primary care practice. Ideally, they will also have experience in group learning facilitation and interprofessional education, and team-based care. They will provide service to the University, the School, and to the profession by leading and/or participating in quality improvement initiatives, scholarly activities and evaluation of collaborative health education programs and team-based practices as it pertains to Nursing at the Gateway Clinic. As the Gateway Clinic is a newly developing initiative, the successful candidate will help to develop and implement the practices employed at the clinic and will evaluate and iterate upon best practices in team-based education and care.
Salary will be commensurate with the level of educational preparation and experience. The expected salary range for this Lecturer position is $130,000/year to $140,000/year, plus benefits, at 1.0 FTE (pro-rated based on actual FTE).

Key responsibilities
• Supervise learners, and when required due to learner capacity, provide direct care to patients, including but not limited to: List specific responsibilities in care as applicable
• Perform comprehensive health assessments, make diagnoses, and develop, implement and monitor care plans across the lifespan.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests and prescribe treatments, including pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
• Provide care for acute and chronic conditions, including reproductive health, mental health, and substance use.
• Support continuity of care through patient panel management, team collaboration, and system navigation.
• Establish priorities for health management; provide follow-up treatment; communicate findings, diagnoses, and priorities to patients and families; support and counsel patients in response to diseases and conditions.
• Consulting, coordinating and referring to other team members, specialists or community organizations to support the patient and caregiver in multiple dimensions of their health and wellbeing.
• Providing On-call coverage for critical lab values.
• Documenting care, keeping medical records using the clinic’s electronic medical record keeping system.
• Working within their full scope and recognizing and addressing gaps in their knowledge to ensure safe, quality care
• Role model person-centred and relationship care for learners by empowering patients and caregivers as experts in their own lives, prioritizing patient agency and advocating for patients and caregivers as equal team members and partners in care and education. Actively involve patients in clinical teaching and student learning (e.g. giving feedback to students on communication skills).
• Provide student support, mentorship and training to learners from across the health professions. This may include providing feedback and preparing evaluations to learners regarding their patient care.
• Expectations from the health professions around teaching, service, education, committee work
• Use data and research insights to devise and propose meaningful changes for ongoing improvement of clinical teaching, learning and interprofessional practice and education
• Work cohesively in a team environment, including the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a large group of faculty, staff, students, patients, caregivers, other individuals within a patient’s support network, and partner organizations in care, education and research.
• Learn, adapt and utilize health and learning technologies (e.g. electronic health record, artificial intelligence) effectively in a rapidly changing health system and health professions education program.
• Contribute to the clinic’s learning health system approach by initiating, co-designing, and implementing quality improvement projects that align with clinic priorities, teaching objectives, and patient-identified needs; analyze and interpret data to guide change; evaluate outcomes; and disseminate findings to advance team-based primary care practice and education.
Successful candidates must have demonstrated experience teaching, providing mentorship and direct clinical supervision and working in team-based care contexts. Familiarity with the UBC School of Nursing’s Master of Nursing – Nurse Practitioner (MN-NP) curriculum is desirable. In addition, the successful candidate will:
• Demonstrate a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, inclusion, and trauma-informed care.
• Possess a willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own.

• Demonstrate knowledge of the determinants of health and health promotion and chronic disease prevention and management principles and practices.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners established by British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
• Demonstrate experience and interest in pursuing evaluation and scholarly activities to advance collaborative health education and practice improvement.
• Demonstrate ability to collaborate effectively, both in-person and virtually, with a diverse team in a complex environment.
• Demonstrates exceptional, culturally safe communication skills that support therapeutic relationships, clear documentation, collaborative team-based care, and psychologically safe environments for learners, patients and colleagues alike.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Master of Nursing - Nurse Practitioner degree and have a current practicing registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) - NP (Family) in good standing. Professional liability insurance is required. Applicants with an additional post-graduate degree in a related discipline (e.g. education, leadership, or research) are preferred. The successful candidate must have 2+ years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner with clinical experiences in primary care, community health or rural/remote practice being a strong asset.
