Supporting Future Nurses

In partnership with Westland Insurance, Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of British Columbia (NNPBC) is pleased to present the NNPBC-Westland Future Nurses Scholarship for nursing students in British Columbia.

 

The NNPBC-Westland Future Nurses Scholarship is presented annually to one (1) individual who is actively registered as a full-time student in nursing studies or is commencing a nursing educational program as a full-time student at an accredited institution in British Columbia.

 

Valued at $5,000, this scholarship is designed to help reduce financial barriers, recognize leadership and potential and support students as they move through their nursing education. Through this program, NNPBC and Westland Insurance are proud to invest in the next generation of nurses and nurse practitioners who will help strengthen patient care and the nursing profession across the province.

 

Details and Eligibility

To be eligible for the NNPBC-Westland Future Nurses Scholarship, applicants must meet all the following criteria:

  1. Be registered as a full-time student in an accredited nursing education program at a recognized educational institution in BC or have a conditional offer for registration as a full-time student in an accredited nursing education program at a recognized educational institution in BC.
  2. Program dates must continue or commence no later than March 31, 2027.
  3. Applicants must be enrolled in, or accepted to, a nursing undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate program at an eligible institution in BC. This includes the following:
    • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) programs
    • Registered Nurse (RN) programs
    • Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) programs
    • Nurse Practitioner (NP) programs
    • Master of Nursing (MN/MSN) programs
    • Nursing (PhD) programs

What is the NNPBC-Westland Future Nurses Scholarship?

Launched in 2025 through a partnership between NNPBC and Westland MyGroup Insurance, this scholarship supports full-time nursing students in eligible programs across British Columbia (BC), from entry-level studies through graduate degrees (including MN/MSN and PhD programs), with the aim of strengthening and advancing nursing practice in the province.

When is the deadline to apply?

The application will open on May 19, 2026 at 9:00 AM Pacific Time and will close on June 26, 2026 at 4:00 PM Pacific Time.

Eligibility and Requirements

Who is eligible to apply?

Applicants must be enrolled full-time in, or accepted to, an accredited nursing undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate program at a recognized post-secondary institution in British Columbia (BC), or have a conditional offer of admission to such a program

 

Program dates must continue or commence no later than March 31, 2027.

What are the application requirements?

Applicants who meet all eligibility criteria may submit their application through the 2026 NNPBC-Westland Future Nurses Scholarship webpage using the online application form linked there by June 26, 2026 at 4:00 PM Pacific Time. A complete application must include:

  • Completed application form
  • Response to the stream-specific prompt questions (written or audio/video format)
  • Two (2) Letters of Reference
  • A Proof of Registration or a Conditional Offer Letter from a recognized BC nursing education program

Who can provide a Letter of Reference?
  • At least one (1) reference must come from a current or former educator or institutional representative (e.g., lecturer, program administrator, dean, faculty member)
  • The second reference may come from educators or from individuals such as:
    • Employers or workplace supervisors
    • Extracurricular activity supervisors or coaches
    • Community involvement supervisors or coordinators
    • Co-op or placement coordinators
    • Preceptors
    • Practicing nurses in BC (LPN, RN, RPN, or NP)
  • References cannot be provided by family members or individuals who can only speak to personal character without knowledge of academic, work, or nursing-related involvement

What must be included in the Proof of Registration or Conditional Offer Letter?

Proof of Registration must include:

  • Name of the educational institution
  • Name of the nursing program
  • Date of registration
  • Applicant’s full name confirming active full-time enrolment
  • Program start or continuation date (no later than March 31, 2027)
  • Institution address for fund disbursement

Conditional Offer Letter must include:

  • Official institutional letterhead
  • Date of the offer
  • Applicant’s full name
  • Name of the educational institution
  • Name of the nursing program confirming full-time admission
  • Program start or continuation date (no later than March 31, 2027)
  • Institution address for fund disbursement

Application Process

How do I apply?

Applications must be submitted through the 2026 NNPBC-Westland Future Nurses Scholarship webpage using the online application form linked there. You will need to complete all required fields and upload all supporting documents directly within the form.

What are the application streams?

There are three (3) application streams based on your current stage of education:

High School: You are currently in high school and have been accepted to a nursing education program in BC

Undergraduate: You are currently enrolled in an undergraduate nursing program (LPN, RN, or RPN) in BC

Graduate: You are enrolled in a graduate-level nursing program in BC, including NP programs or another graduate nursing program (MN/MSN, PhD)

Can I submit my prompt response as an audio or video recording?

Yes. You may respond to the scholarship prompt in written, audio, or video format. After completing your stream-specific prompt question, you will be asked whether you are submitting an audio or video response. If you select “Yes,” you will be directed to an upload section for your file. If you select “No,” you will proceed directly to the reference letter section.

What file types are accepted for uploads?

Supporting documents such as reference letters and proof of registration must be submitted as PDF files. Audio submissions must be in .mp3 or .wav format, and video submissions must be in .mp4 or .avi format.

What is the AI Use Disclosure?

This section asks applicants to disclose any use of artificial intelligence tools in preparing their application. It is for transparency purposes only, and applicants are expected to respond honestly.

What is the Accessibility section?

The Accessibility section allows applicants to share any accommodation needs or provide feedback related to accessibility. This section is optional.

Selection and Notification

How is the winner selected?

A selection committee appointed by NNPBC reviews all applications and selects one (1) scholarship recipient based on a holistic assessment of each application, including the clarity and insight of the applicant’s response, demonstrated leadership potential and initiative, and commitment to or interest in the nursing profession. All decisions are final, and individual feedback or reconsideration of outcomes is not provided.

When will the winner be notified?

The winner will be notified directly. All applicants will also be informed of the outcome of their application by August 17, 2026.

How are funds disbursed?

The full CA $5,000 funds will be disbursed directly by Westland MyGroup to the educational institution listed on the successful applicant’s application form.

Can I save my application and come back to it later?

Microsoft Forms does not currently allow you to save your progress and return to the application later. We recommend preparing your written responses and gathering all required documents, such as reference letters and proof of registration, before starting the application.

I submitted an application but didn’t receive a confirmation email. Can you confirm if it was received?

Yes, please contact scholarship@nnpbc.com and we can confirm whether your application was successfully received.
