Assisted Living and Residential Care
According to the Office of the Senior's Advocate, 93% of B.C. seniors live in independent housing. While these seniors are able to do so with support and services that meet their health and social needs, some require a greater level of support and care, and require assisted living or residential care. Currently, approximately 3% of seniors live in assisted-living and 4% in residential care.Residential Care
Residential care, also known as long-term care or nursing homes provides 24 hour professional supervision and care in a protective, supportive environment for people who have complex care needs and can no longer be cared for in their own homes or in an assisted living residence.Assisted Living
Assisted living provides housing, hospitality services and personal care services for adults who can live independently and make decisions on their own behalf but require a supportive environment due to physical and functional health challenges.There continue to be many issues within assisted living and residential care, such as its affordability, appropriateness and availability. ARNBC is committed to working collaboratively with stakeholders to further study and address these issues to ensure that seniors living in assisted living and residential care are able to do so healthily and safely.
