Council of Canadian Academies Expert Panel on MAiD
Add Your Voice to ARNBC's submission to the Council of Canadian Academies (CCA) Expert Panel on Medical Assistance in Dying
The Council of Canadian Academies (CCA) was asked by the Government of Canada to further study three particularly complex types of requests for MAiD. These include:- Requests by mature minors
- Advance requests
- Requests where mental illness is the sole underlying medical condition
-
What is the available evidence on, and how does it inform our understanding of medical assistance in dying (MAID) in the case of mature minors, advance requests, and where mental illness is the sole underlying medical condition, given the clinical, legal, cultural, ethical, and historical context in Canada?
ARNBC will be putting forward a submission that identifies key issues concerning the three areas noted above, from a nursing perspective. Your input will shape ARNBC's submission to the CCA Expert Panel. To inform ARNBC's submission, please complete the following questionnaire by August 31th 2017. We invite you to share this with your nursing colleagues.
For questions and concerns, please contact us.
Please note, the Expert Panel's work is restricted to examining relevant knowledge, information, and evidence in relation to the three areas of study, and will not be recommending changes to the current legislation, nor seeking views or opinions on MAiD more generally.
