As of March 1, 2016 all B.C. RNs and NPs began receiving their professional liability protection, along with numerous other services, from the  Canadian Nurses Protective Society (CNPS). Read the announcement.

Starting November 1, 2018 all practising RPNs, including Interim registrants and Employed Student Psychiatric Nurses, will be eligible for CNPS’s comprehensive professional liability protection and risk management services under the BC College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).  Read the announcement.

Please note, discussions have occurred with CNPS and they are receptive to an inclusive structure. CNPS has also recently changed their bylaws to allow for liability protection to be provided to other nursing designations. Discussions will continue but all indications thus far have pointed to a supportive and receptive CNPS. As noted, RPNs will move to CNPS under the BCCNP. LPNs will continue to work under their existing coverage for the time being.
