NNPBC offers leadership courses to nurses of all designations (LPN, NP, RN, RPN) who are looking to move into a leadership position or have already started working in a leadership role. NNPBC is pleased to offer three leadership courses in 2022.
Each course is two hours in length, delivered virtually. Participants will receive handouts prior to course start.
Leadership 101
This course is intended for nurses who are brand new to leadership roles, particularly new managers. You were at the bedside on Monday and by Wednesday you are in charge.
Topics include:
- Basic budgets
- Staffing
- Contracts
- Rotations
- History of the Health Authorities (and why they are the way they are)
- Basic communication strategies
- Conflict management
- Building confidence in your role

Leadership and Conflict
This course discusses conflict management. Learn to appreciate and navigate conflict as a leader.
Topics include:
- Approaches to conflict resolution
- Conflict scenarios e.g., with other professions, outside stakeholders, direct reports, and leadership
- When and how conflict can be a good thing

Leadership Communication
This course takes a deeper dive into the world of communication. Learn a variety of communication methods and tools that you as a leader can use regularly.
Topics include:
- Communication styles
- Communication approaches in various situations
- Listening and understanding
- Keeping conversations on topic
- Difficult conversations
